Tired or sick? Our exposures are doing damage to us now

It is vital to realise that exposure to electromagnetic fields isn't just a thing that will give us some health problem 10 or 15 years in the future

Our exposures are doing damage to us now―in many ways and on many levels. They affect our memory, our concentration, our hormones our immune system. As writer/videographer and brain tumor survivor, Olga Sheen has said "You could wallpaper the world with the studies of harm caused by wireless radiation."

Immediate effects

Stress Proteins are created with each exposure to EMF creating immediate biological effects, these can be measured within five minutes of the exposure. (For more background on this see p 63, Overpowered by Dr Martin Blank)

Stress proteins also are known as heat-shock proteins after the way they were discovered. Stress proteins have a defensive role just as they do with viral and bacterial infections or fever. With lengthy or long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields however the body makes less of them and loses the ability to fend off cellular damage and accelerate recovery, leaving us more susceptible to cell damage and disease of all types.

Interestingly, one type of stress on the body will affect the making of stress proteins for another type of stress. For example, in a guinea pig study, it was found that stress proteins stopped hearing loss from a potentially damaging noise, but were much less effective if the guinea pigs had already been exposed to low-level noise (or to experiencing heat shock). Heat shock protein HSP 70 increased after 4 hours of 1800 MHz exposure, Chronic expression of heat shock
proteins is a known cause of the process that leads to the turning of normal cells into cancerous cells, metastasis, and/or
resistance to anti-cancer drugs.

Upon exposure, cells die and our cell's energy is used for protection rather than for energy production

Cellular energy is used for protection rather than for the energy for moving, thinking and growing. Cell membranes harden, keeping nutrients out and waste products in. Waste accumulating inside the cells creates a higher concentration of unstable, reactive molecules  (free radicals) leading to both the disruption of DNA repair and cellular dysfunction. Unwanted cell death occurs, releasing the micronuclei from the disrupted DNA repair into the fluid between cells (interstitial fluid), where they are free to replicate and proliferate. This is the most likely mechanism that contributes to cancer. Damage occurs to proteins on the cell membrane, resulting in disruption of intercellular communication. When cells can’t communicate with each other, the result is impaired tissue, organ, and organism function.

Upon exposure, our oxygen shuttling red blood cells lose their charge and clump together

Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs, through the arteries and capillaries to our cells. They do this by binding billions of molecules of oxygen to the haemoglobin they are made of in the lungs, transporting it, and then unbinding it at the end of the process to give our cells energy. These red blood cells have an almost donut-type shape which allows the maximum gas exchange and they squish up to get into the fine capillaries, that are less than half their own diameter. They also have a negative charge uniformly over their surface, repulsing each other for ideal blood viscosity. With exposure to a cell phone's radiation, the red blood cells lose this charge clumping together. This means they have less optimal movement and oxygen carrying capactiy and can be seen vividly in dark field microscopy after only a few minutes. https://biocircuitry.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/A-CASE-STUDY-OF-THE-NEGATIVE-EFFECT.pdf

Opening of the protective blood-brain-barrier

This is another immediate effect that in animal testing was also able to be seen within five minutes.

The blood-brain barrier is characterised by having cells joined by ‘tight junctions', where the gaps between the cells are sealed by impermeable materials. Making this permeable means large harmful molecules can enter from the bloodstream that the brain is not designed to deal with.

Equivalent layers of cells with tight junctions cover all of our body surfaces, and a similar increase in their permeability could allow the entry of a wide range of potential toxins, allergens and carcinogens from the environment.

Increase in heart rate

This was measurable in 40% of the adults when exposed to a (240 Hz) DECT phone base. According to this research reported in the European Journal of Oncology led by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University, Canada.

Effects from two minutes of exposure to a child

Within two minutes of microwave phone exposure, the electrical activity of a child’s brain is abnormally altered for up to one hour.

Effects from two hours of exposure

DNA strand Breaks

Drs Lai and Singh found DNA strand breaks in living rat brains after two hours of EMF exposure which was well under legal public safety levels. Study

Effects from 4 hours of exposure

Sperm production abnormalities

Adult (human) Males using cell phones for 4 hours a day had a third of their sperm count lost. Of the remaining sperm, 50% of the showed physical abnormalities.

Effects measurable after exposure has ceased

Continued DNA breakdown

Exposure can unleash a chain of processes that can continue to cause damage after the exposure has ceased. For example, Drs Lai and Singh found DNA continued to break down in rat brains well after the exposure itself.

Effects from a year of exposure

High-frequency hearing loss

Studies from the American Academy of Ontology Head and Neck Surgery (AAOHNS) show that cell phone use over a year causes inner ear damage resulting in High-Frequency Hearing Loss. This is characterized by the loss of ability to hear consonants such as s, f, t, and z, even though vowels can be heard normally. Consequently, people hear sounds but cannot make out what is being said. Use a radiation-free headset.

Ear warmth, ear fullness, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus) as early warning signs that you may have an auditory abnormality. Indian researchers are currently doing a comprehensive study with access to actual mobile phone use data, their preliminary findings report the same damage.

Miscarriage

More than 900 pregnant women in the San Francisco area carried meters that measured their exposure to electromagnetic field radiation. Expectant mothers with the highest exposure levels during their typical weekday routines were 2.7 times as likely to miscarry as women with the lowest levels. According to research carried out by Dr De-Kun Li and others of the Kaiser Foundation Research Institute, published in Nature magazine in 2017. The increased risk of miscarriage associated with high EMF was consistently observed regardless of the sources of high EMF.

Cumulative effects

Head cancers

For the public exposure to RF from mobile phones, the evidence on head cancers is now consistent for those exposed for longer than 10 years.

Both the Hardell studies and the Interphone studies indicate potential head tumour risks of between 1.5 -2.0 times the normal rates for head tumours (but up to 5 times for the younger groups in the Hardell study), particularly for gliomas and acoustic neuromas which are generally on the same side of the head used when phoning. This is according to the Guiliani summary of ICEMS papers on EMF.

Cumulative and multiple exposures and/or accidental high exposure

Electro-hypersensitivity

Cumulative effects result in Electro-hypersensitivity. This occurs after an electromagnetic insult, such as exposure to a new powerful RF (wireless) device or an electric shock, the person then suffers increasing symptoms, including and word-finding difficulties, stabbing pains, impaired cognitive function, nose-bleeds, skin reddening and tingling, headaches and general disturbance to the nervous system.

A significant proportion of the population now suffers from this and it is a nightmare for these sufferers, who like those overexposed to chemicals: can then suffer from small exposures to electromagnetic fields that others do not feel effects from. Sufferer and ex-Silicon-valley engineer Jeromy Johnson talks about this on Tedx. Children, with their increasing exposures, may be at high risk for this in their future. Dafna Tachover an Israeli attorney, and early technology adopter and ex-military WiFi specialist is one of the victims of high exposure, who now cannot use any of this technology without pain. She has founded a website called We Are The Evidence, where victims share their stories. Tragically some of the victims of this, have committed suicide because they found it impossible to function in our wireless world.

What is certain is that it is not a nocebo effect. While some reports imply the electro-hypersensitive person is suffering delusion/psychological illness, and that blind-testing these people does not show confirm that exposures cause the symptoms, it is actually the reports that do not bare proper scrutiny. Different frequencies can affect each Electro-hypersensitive sufferer differently: some will get a rash, others' heart effects. A worthwhile report on this condition can be found here

Multi-generational effects

ADHD like effects

Exposure to cell phone radiation during pregnancy affected the brain development of the offspring of Mice in this study. “We have shown that behavioural problems in mice that resemble ADHD are caused by cell phone exposure in the womb,” says Dr Hugh S. Taylor, professor and chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences, Yale School of Medicine.

Permanent Effects

Early gestational effects are permanent

EMF exposure at critical times, such as during the early period of gestation, or during sexual development can have permanent harmful effects. For example, the permanent damage to the ovarian follicles or gonads shown in mice studies from 240Ghtz EMF exposure. The same frequencies used in WiFi used in schools and homes. These animal studies, combined with a dramatic human infertility decrease are a cause for serious concern.

Damage to the myelin shield

This shield is a protective wrap made of a fatty substance, that spirals around nerves. It protects the electrical activity of brain neurons and develops from mid-gestation to two years of age and through adolescence. It is adversely affected by radio-frequency fields. If it is damaged, the entire nervous system then becomes hyper-responsive to stimuli of all kinds, such as electromagnetic fields.

Exacerbation of other conditions

Dr George Carlo (who led a 7-year programme with a group of 200 researchers on the subject), says that EMF exposures are not an additional cause of health problems, but that they prevent the body from ameliorating any other harmful conditions.

Whole-body effects

Blood cells change formation throughout the body

While cellphone radiation is mainly absorbed by the head and hand (up to 50%) in the surrounding tissue, darkfield microscope examination of live blood droplets shows the effect on the blood is throughout the whole body. Our red blood cells change their formation in a similar way as they do when you consume alcohol they bunch up and are not as effective. A Western Price Foundation study found drops from the toe will show the same effects as drops from parts touching the cell phone.

There is much we do not know

"As some studies indicate that long term avid use of cell phone increases the risk of developing brain cancer… but what would happen if the user stops using a cell phone after say 5 or 10 years, will the risk of developing brain cancer remain the same or change? Without this knowledge we don’t know the maximal period of cell phone use that doesn’t increase the risk of brain cancer, and whether the risk is reversible." —Professor Dariusz Lesczynski. Professor Lesczynski has two doctorates and a docentship in biochemistry and has worked for over twenty years in this field.

There are at least 8 distinct types of harm from electromagnetic fields

1. Damage to the nervous system

Electromagnetic fields attack our nervous systems, including our brains, leading to widespread neurological/neuropsychiatric effects. “There is no question EMFs have a major effect on neurological functioning. They slow our brain waves and affect our long-term mental clarity. We should minimize exposures as much as possible to optimize neurotransmitter levels and prevent deterioration of health” say brain researcher, author of The Edge Effect, Eric R. Braverman an expert in the brain’s global impact on illness and health.

Exposure time appears to make a big difference in the effect.

2. Damage to chemical messaging within the body

Widespread damage to our hormonal systems.  Our bodies chemical messaging system is the endocrine system. Endocrine glands located around the body send chemical messages (hormones) to regulate functions such as growth, salt and water balance, blood pressure, sugar levels (think diabetes without this functioning well) and converting food into energy as well as what hormones have a reputation for; the development of female and male sexual characteristics. The thyroid gland is another vital endocrine organ. It has been established that even a small change in thyroid hormone levels circulating in the blood is sufficient to alter the brain function of subjects. A study in Germany found minor degrees of thyroid dysfunction following excessive use of mobile phones. The other well-known hormones serotonin and melatonin are reduced. Serotonin is our mood hormone, diminished levels are linked with depression and melatonin is a powerful antioxidant, working as a scavenger cleaning up our bodies at night and has an effect on the production of almost all hormones in the body.

3. Oxidative stress production and free radical damage

Oxidative stress within the body is essentially a rusting process on the inside. Oxidative stress has a central role in essentially all chronic diseases. Cataracts are an example of oxidative stress within the eye.

4. DNA breakage

The levels of radiation deemed safe by many government standards were used in Dr Henry Lai and Narendra Singh's research to study whether non-ionizing radiation does damage to DNA. They found that even two hours of exposure increased the frequency of DNA strand breaks. Alarmingly this damage continued even after the exposure ended. Broken pieces of DNA called micronuclei are found after exposure to EMF and this type of DNA damage is so strongly associated with cancer that doctors use evidence of micronuclei as a means of diagnosing cancer.

5. Higher levels of cell death

Apoptosis is programmed cell death. A high amount of cells dying is especially important in causing both neurodegenerative diseases and infertility.

6. Lower male and female fertility and success in bringing a foetus to term

A pilot study showed a lowering of erectile function after front pocketing a cell phone for more than two hours. There is also evidence of damage to ovarian follicles and gonads and lowering of the production of sex hormones, lower libido and increased levels of spontaneous abortion and the attack of the DNA in sperm cells. Human sperm count has dropped to below 50% of what used to be considered normal throughout the technologically advanced countries of the world. Research in the use of the mobile phone during pregnancy shows there may be an increased risk of spontaneous abortion.

7. Produce excessive intracellular calcium and excessive calcium signalling. Calcium needs to be within a very narrow range in the body to do what it does. It needs to be in balance. For more detail see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXLuZEPbQgw

8. Cancer. EMF is associated with 15 cancer-causing mechanisms

EMF attack the cells of our bodies to cause cancer. While malignant brain cancer is one type of cancer on the rise in children, there has been a rise in bowel cancer in young men aged 20-49 and this is now the most common cancer among men in this age group. In New Zealand, colorectal cancer otherwise known bowel cancer kills as many people as breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Dr De-Kun Li attributes carrying phones in trouser pockets to the rise in colorectal cancer.

Further conditions:

There is also a substantial literature showing that EMFs also cause other effects including life-threatening cardiac effects.  In addition, substantial evidence suggests EMF causation of very early-onset dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

"The only safe exposure level is zero, a position confirmed by dose-response trends in epidemiological studies."

7 minute video "Wake Up Call" produced back in 2009. It profiles John Byrant who believes his brain tumour was caused by his cell -phone use. His Neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo says "I'm incredibly worried, concerned, depressed at the number of kids I'm seeing coming in with brain tumors. Malignant brain tumors..."

"It is a pretty big gamble to let a child use a mobile phone at this point in time."

Russia and Austria have a protocol for diagnosing electro-hypersensitivity. Dr Oleg Grigoriev did a presentation in London in 2010, where he demonstrates how, in Russia, he is part of a successful clinic both evaluating and treating those with sensitivity to electromagnetic fields on a carefully diagnosed individual basis.

Using objective markers as opposed to being entirely reliant on subjective symptomology, the clinic has 30 years experience and some success in identifying electromagnetic sensitivity and effectively treating it, without resorting to assessing it psychologically. https://www.radiationresearch.org/research/health-and-emf-exposure-protocol-for-diagnostics-and-therapy/

Former WHO Director-General Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland says "...My hypersensitivity has gone so far that I even react on mobiles closer to me than about four metres...If I hold a laptop to read what's on the screen, it feels like I get an electric shock through my arms."....
