Safety Recommendations
Recommendations made here (regarding distance and refraining from wearing smart watches and bluetooth airpods) are made following the measurement of radiation levels of common devices and examing these against  known risks of electromagnectic radiation.

These have been published in an  Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) paper which can be downloaded below.

*Note: Not all of the papers recommmendations are included here, and this is because we believe that some suggestions in the paper may give a lower exposure however are more likely result in more chronic exposure and there are alternatives such as using an adaptor for you phone with an ethernet cable..

Mobile Phone

1.   Keep your phone off your body; not in your pocket, or bra, unless on areoplance mode. Carry in a bag instead.

2.   Browse and stream with the phone on a table. Keep 50 cm away or at arms distance from the body.

3.   When calling, more radiation is created than when receiving, therefore use speakerphone and keep the 1 metre away from the phone.

4.   Use 4G, turn 5G off.

5.   When streaming and using the phone as a computer, you can cut down wireless exposure by using an ethernet cable from your router to a small adaptor that allows you to plug into your phone's usb port and turning the Wi-Fi on your router off. https://youtu.be/dDfIDQ9b2wQ

How to use an ethernet cable with your phone or computer

With an ethernet cable (you can buy these at the warehouse) and a small adaptor, you can avoid Wi-Fi. You run the ethernet cable from your router to the adaptor which plugs into the USB-C port of your  device including your USB-C enabled phone, and turn the Wi-Fi off from the router.

To turn off the Wi-Fi  signal on your router.

Some routers allow this to be done with a button, if it does, you will see the WiFi indictor light go off when used. (The wireless button on your router maybe instead for pairing wireless devices not turning it on and off).

If your specific router model lacks a physical Wi-Fi button, you can turn the wireless channels on or off by logging into the router settings page using details physically on the router (for example on Vodaphone it is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).

Image of mesurement of EMR readings on differen parts of he body while wearing Bluetooth earphones.

Bluetooth headphones

This image shows the electromagnetic radiation readings, in microwatts per square meter, on different parts of the body while wearing Bluetooth headphones and playing music on a Smartphone kept in a trouser right pocket.

The use of Bluetooth earphones heavily impacts the head region with power density in the range of 4000 – 8000 µW/m.

The Building Biology initiative's health professionals find this level of extreme concern: with headaches, dizziness and nausea in the short term. In the long term sowing seeds of serious health effects such as Alzheimer's, and auditory system damage.

In fact: The BioInitiative Report has compiled more than 1800 scientific research articles which report serious impacts on human and animal bodies like abnormal gene transcriptions, genotoxicity, and DNA damage from EMR.

Smart Watch

Do not use unless absolutely necessary.
In the case of a Bluetooth smartwatch, the radiation in the pocket region as well as near the smartwatch is about 1000 µW/m 2 or 1000 microwatts per square meter.

Laptop

1.   Use on a desk at arms length (50cm).
2.   Do not use on your lap, especially while connected to Wi-Fi router
3.   As with your mobile phone you can go old school with an ethernet cable, and Wi-Fi turned off on the router and laptop. (These cables are foil lined so keep electromagnetic  radiation inside the cable. If it is slimline, without enough room for an ethernet cable jack, you can use adaptor. See above for how to do this.
